Coat Giveaway for Needy Children

The Children's Charities Foundation will distribute more than 1,200 new winter coats to local kids from thirty (30) charities and community organizations in the metro area. Charities were selected in advance so that each child will receive an appropriate size coat. Distribution of the new winter coats will take place at the Verizon's Center's main lobby 601 F Street, NW. Money to purchase the coats was raised at the Children's Charities Foundation www.ccfdc.org gala and the BB&T Classic basketball tournament last month.

The kid's coat giveaway is in its third year and is one of hundreds of projects the Foundation has funded that offers help to at risk and disadvantage youth in DC, Maryland and Virginia. Along with CCF, the D.C. Children's Trust Fund was instrumental in identifying local organizations serving children in need of a suitable winter coat.

The Children's Charities Foundation has distributed more than $8 million to more than 100 local charities in the DC metro region over the past 17 years.

Participating non-profits receiving coat from this year's initiative include: Sunshine Early Learning Center, Georgia Ave. Collaborative, Georgetown Pediatric Mobile Medical Unit, Bright Beginnings, Neediest Kids, Northern Virginia Family Service, the Boys and Girls Club, Kayla's Village, Little Lights, DC Healthy Start, and Healthy Babies.

The new coats were purchased in an arrangement with Lord & Taylor's.
